Diabetes and alcohol can be a bit of a balancing act. You can still drink alcohol when you have diabetes, however,  you need to be aware of how it can affect your body and how to manage this.

For example, drinking can make you more likely to have a hypo, because alcohol interferes with your blood sugar levels. It can affect your weight too, as there can be a lot of calories in alcoholic drinks.

Martin felt unhappy after seeing his holiday snaps. He was overweight and felt he looked unhealthy.

He went back to his doctor, who put him in touch with dieticians at Charing Cross Hospital. They recommended he use a free app called “My Fitness Pal”.

Martin was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2011 during a routine blood pressure check.
